The Junior League of Bristol, Tennessee-Virginia, Incorporated is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
The Junior League of Bristol welcomes your interest in becoming a member of our organization that was established as Border Guild in 1948. In considering membership in the Junior League, you might wonder what you can contribute to the future. Consider this, all but the 25 charter members of Border Guild started as Provisional members. Each was simply a woman who made a commitment to this organization of her time and talents. It was through the training opportunities and the mentoring of the Active and Sustaining members that each of the women succeeded.
Any woman is invited to join who meets these requirements:
·Must be 21 years of age or older before the date of the Provisional Course to apply for the current League year. (There is no maximum age to join!)
· You must be a resident of the Greater Bristol, Tennessee and Virginia area
· The JLB uses the following additional criteria for consideration of prospective members:
· Demonstrate an interest in voluntarism and a commitment to community service
· Show an interest in developing potential for voluntary community participation
New Provisionals are welcomed beginning in the Spring of each year. The Provisional Course runs from August 1st thru May 31st of each year. Provisionals are the lifeblood of our organization and will help strengthen and sustain it over the years. JLB maintains its reputation for hard-working, committed volunteers, and this year promises to be among the most rewarding and fun year of your League career. Your Provisional year is your training for Active membership where you will learn about the League's history and structure, and by attending Provisional Course meetings in addition to General Meetings, practice parliamentary procedure and meeting management skills.
