Day of Service:
Every year, JLB partners with another local nonprofit to help assist in revitalizing a space, cleaning a facility, gathering needed items, or another activity to promote the organization. In 2017, we partnered with Abuse Alternatives, Inc. Abuse Alternatives, Inc. is committed to providing quality services through direct support and advocacy to the victims of domestic violence with the goal of eliminating the pattern of abusive behaviors from the lives of those individuals and their families. Our Day of Service was spent renovating the children's space at the facility. Thank you to everyone who participated!
Little Free Library:
This national program provides a "take a book, return a book" gathering place where neighbors share their favorite literature and stories. JLB's Little Free Libraries are located throughout the Greater Bristol areas.
Junior League of Bristol now has eleven Little Free Libraries to stock! In addition to continuing to stock locations at Sugar Hollow Park, Wellmont Hospice Hospital, Girls, Inc., Healing Hands Healthcare, Slater Community Center, and the YMCA, Junior League of Bristol now also stocks Little Free Libraries at the following Bristol, TN elementary schools: Anderson Elementary School, Haynesfield Elementary School, Fairmont Elementary School, Holston View Elementary School, and Avoca Elementary School.
If you would like to make a donation of children's books, please email Ashley Boyer at email@example.com.
Each spring since 1989, the JLB has partnered with area food banks and Food City to collect nonperishable food items. Please contact us to learn more about our partnership with other Junior Leagues, Northeast Tennessee Second Harvest Food Bank, and Food City locations to better meet the needs of our community.
Kids In The Kitchen:
This initiative empowers youth to make healthy lifestyle choices. By teaching young children the importance of choosing healthy foods, it will help reverse childhood obesity and its associated health issues. Contact us for dates, times, and locations to bring your family and take advantage of our food voucher program.
Read for the Record:
Jumpstart's national campaign, Read for the Record, brings together millions of people each year in classrooms, libraries, community centers, and homes across the US. This annual campaign was launched over a decade ago to highlight the importance of building early literacy and language skills for EVERY child, so that all children have the opportunity to enter kindergarten prepared to succeed. Members spent time in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms throughout the Greater Bristol area sharing our love of literacy.
Read Across America:
National Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2nd, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss.
Junior League of Bristol Members visit area elementary schools to read Dr. Seuss books to classrooms. Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Celebrate with us in 2019 by volunteering on Friday, March 1st in one of our local schools!
Thanksgiving Dinner Spirit of Giving:
Partnering with Tennessee High School and Virginia High School, the Junior League of Bristol has been fortunate to sponsor Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets for our local youth and their families. If you or your organization would be interested in sponsoring a Thanksgiving Basket, please contact Donna O'Dell at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Junior League of Bristol has a long history of community projects that support Arts & Music, Health & Education, Recreation, and Beautification.
The Junior League of Bristol members continue to volunteer in many of the communities' agencies and non-profits, as well as supporting the JLB's own signature community projects.
The Junior League of Bristol, TN/VA, Inc. aspires to be Bristol's premier women's volunteer organization. We are committed to implementing projects and partnerships that impact women and children in our community and to creating an environment that fosters voluntarism, leadership and friendship.
Some form of this word is found in each part of the JLB's purpose. We invite each of you to volunteer your time and talents alongside of us at our upcoming events. Learn more about the Association of Junior League's Statement on Voluntarism below.
